Are Androids the Better Humans? @ MILA – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute

  • MILA - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute 6666 Rue Saint-Urbain Montréal, QC, H2S 3H1 Canada (map)

MILA – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, MUTEK Montréal and Zú invited to attend the International AI Art Lab’s public day, animated by the head curator and facilitators, Natalia Fuchs (ARTYPICAL), Maurice Jones (MUTEK Japan) and Peter Kirn (CDM). The 13 selected artists presented their work and interest in taking part in the AI Art Lab in Montreal.

Within his talk “Are Androids the better humans?” international curator and cultural researcher Maurice Jones explores differing attitudes towards AI, Robotics, Transhumanism and ultimately artificial life. By investigating the sources of Japanese affinity towards artificial life he dives deep into the historical, philosophical and religious context of Japan. He finally closes the circle by showing how the resulting perceptions can provide guidance to an alternative narrative of artificial life, which stand in stark contrast to the Frankensteinian perspective often represented in the Western cultural dialogue.
